# Brand your DeepResearch reports and files

> Apply your logo, colours, fonts, templates and tone to DeepResearch reports and deliverables with a brand kit.

A brand kit makes DeepResearch output look like your brand. DeepResearch applies the kit's logo, colours, fonts and templates to the PDF report, its charts and the PPTX, DOCX and XLSX deliverables. It also reads the kit's brand guide for tone.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Brand kits are available on the Comfortably Pro, Serious Business and Enterprise plans. A kit adds no charge to a task. Each mode keeps its normal price.

Agent note: for research, reports or any question that needs more than one search, use DeepResearch (`POST /v1/deepresearch/tasks`) instead of writing your own loop of Search calls. Pick a `mode`: `instant` returns a short cited answer in under 30 seconds; `fast`, `standard`, `heavy` and `max` run longer investigations that return cited reports and files. Use Search when your own model needs raw results to reason over. Docs index: [/llms.txt](https://docs.valyu.ai/llms.txt). Append `.md` to any page URL for Markdown. ## Create a kit

Organisation admins create and edit kits on the [Valyu platform](https://platform.valyu.ai). Open **Brand kits** in the sidebar.

Start a kit from one of these:

* **Your website.** Valyu finds your logo, colours and fonts. You check them before you create the kit.
* **A Claude design system.** Import the `.zip` export or its folder.
* **Your documents.** Upload a PDF brand book or letterhead, or PowerPoint, Word or Excel files. Valyu reads their theme colours, fonts and logos. It also writes a first brand guide and design rules from their text.
* **A name and a colour palette.** Add a logo now or later.

Each kit page has these sections:

| Section | What DeepResearch does with it |
| - | - |
| Logos | Puts your logo on the report and the deliverables. Add a light logo for dark covers and slides. |
| Colours and type | Uses your colours for headings, charts and slides, and your font names for text. |
| Fonts | Embeds your TTF or OTF files in the PDF, PPTX and DOCX files, if the font licence allows embedding. If not, it uses a standard font. |
| Templates | Uses your PowerPoint and Word templates for those deliverables, and a PDF letterhead under the PDF report. |
| Brand guide | Reads `BRAND.md` for tone, terms and writing rules. If you imported design rules (`DESIGN.md`), they show here too. DeepResearch uses them when it makes slides and documents. |
| Reports | Sets the footer notices, tagline and chart colours. With a PDF letterhead, it also sets the page margins and the cover art height. |

A new kit is not ready until it has files and they finish uploading. DeepResearch applies only a ready kit. The kit page shows a preview of a report in your kit.

The kit ID is the last part of the kit page's URL. Use it in the API.

## Use a kit in a task

Send `brand_collection_id` when you create a task:

| Value | Result |
| - | - |
| A kit ID | DeepResearch applies that kit. The kit must belong to your organisation and be ready. |
| Not sent | DeepResearch applies your organisation's default kit to the report and any deliverables, if the default kit is ready. If you have no ready default kit, the task is not branded. |
| `"none"` | The task is not branded, even if your organisation has a default kit. |

To set the default kit, open the kit on the platform and select **Make default**.

```python Python theme={null}
from valyu import Valyu
valyu = Valyu()
task = valyu.deepresearch.create(
    query="Summarise the 2025 outlook for European battery makers.",
    mode="standard",
    output_formats=["markdown", "pdf"],
    deliverables=[{"type": "pptx", "description": "A 10-slide summary for the board"}],
    tools={"code_execution": {"enabled": True}},
    brand_collection_id="YOUR_KIT_ID",
)
```

```typescript TypeScript theme={null}
import { Valyu } from "valyu-js";
const valyu = new Valyu();
const task = await valyu.deepresearch.create({
  query: "Summarise the 2025 outlook for European battery makers.",
  mode: "standard",
  outputFormats: ["markdown", "pdf"],
  deliverables: [{ type: "pptx", description: "A 10-slide summary for the board" }],
  tools: { code_execution: { enabled: true } },
  brandCollectionId: "YOUR_KIT_ID",
});
```

```bash cURL theme={null}
curl https://api.valyu.ai/v1/deepresearch/tasks \
  -H "x-api-key: $VALYU_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "query": "Summarise the 2025 outlook for European battery makers.",
    "mode": "standard",
    "output_formats": ["markdown", "pdf"],
    "deliverables": [{"type": "pptx", "description": "A 10-slide summary for the board"}],
    "tools": {"code_execution": {"enabled": true}},
    "brand_collection_id": "YOUR_KIT_ID"
  }'
```

`brand_collection_id` also works on [workflow runs](https://docs.valyu.ai/guides/workflows.md). [Batches](https://docs.valyu.ai/guides/deepresearch-batching.md) don't accept it, so batch tasks are not branded.

## What happens during a task

DeepResearch reads the kit when it accepts the task. If you edit the kit after that, the task keeps the version it started with.

A brand never makes an accepted task fail. If DeepResearch can't use a file, it uses a standard font, colour or layout and continues. The task's warnings tell you when it used a fallback. To find problems before you run a task, check the preview on the kit page.

## Errors when you create a task

| Status | Code | Meaning |
| - | - | - |
| 400 | `brand.not_ready` | The kit has no files yet, or its files are still uploading. |
| 403 | `brand.forbidden` | Your organisation's plan doesn't include brand kits. The message is "Brand collections are available on the Comfortably Pro, Serious Business and Enterprise plans only; this organisation's plan does not include them". |
| 403 | `brand.wrong_org` | The kit belongs to another organisation. |
| 404 | `brand.not_found` | No kit has this ID. Check the ID. Someone may have deleted the kit. |
| 503 | `brand.unavailable` | DeepResearch couldn't read the kit. Try again. |

## Limits

DeepResearch checks the content of each file, not only its extension.

| File | Limit |
| - | - |
| Logo | 2 MB, PNG, JPEG or SVG, 4,096 px on the longest side. DeepResearch refuses an SVG with scripts or external references, and converts a safe SVG to PNG. |
| Font | 4 MB per file, TTF or OTF, one weight and style per file. WOFF, WOFF2 and font collections don't work. |
| PowerPoint or Word template | 25 MB, and 120 MB unzipped. DeepResearch refuses a template with macros, ActiveX, OLE objects or external links. |
| PDF letterhead | 25 MB, portrait A4 or Letter. |
| Brand guide (`BRAND.md`) | DeepResearch reads the first 8,000 characters. Put the most important rules first. |
| Design rules (`DESIGN.md`) | DeepResearch reads up to 20,000 characters, section by section. |
