# Consumer-sector deal-sourcing signals

> Collect funding, acquisition and distribution announcements for a sector into a deduplicated, source-linked deal-sourcing queue with the Valyu Search API.

## Example

Which European outdoor-equipment brands announced funding, acquisitions or distribution agreements in January 2025?

**You get:** source-linked candidate events for a deal-sourcing review queue. Store `company`, `company_domain`, `event_type`, `event_summary`, `event_date`, `publication_date`, `source_url`, `evidence_status` and `review_reason` in a table or CSV your application creates.

## Collect candidate events

Run a separate search for each event type. Start with original company and investor announcements; use trade reporting to discover other candidates and corroborate details. Define the sector boundary so unrelated travel or industrial-safety businesses do not enter the queue.

Set `VALYU_API_KEY` in your environment and try this Search request. It illustrates the retrieval step, not a verified list of deals.

```bash cURL theme={null}
curl --fail-with-body https://api.valyu.ai/v1/search \
  -H "x-api-key: $VALYU_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "query": "outdoor equipment consumer brand funding round Europe January 2025",
    "search_type": "web",
    "start_date": "2025-01-01",
    "end_date": "2025-01-31",
    "max_num_results": 10,
    "response_length": "large"
  }'
```

## Turn results into a review queue

1. Resolve each company to its canonical domain. Keep similarly named businesses separate.
2. Read shortlisted announcements with [Contents](/guides/content-extraction). Extract the fields above, keeping missing dates or amounts unknown.
3. Classify the event precisely: reported sale process, announced agreement and completed acquisition are different statuses.
4. Deduplicate repeated coverage of the same announcement, then compare with previously saved events before adding a new row.

For your extraction step, use an instruction such as:

```text theme={null}
Identify the company, domain, event type, event date and publication date.
Summarize what the supplied announcement actually establishes.
Distinguish rumors, signed agreements and completed transactions.
Preserve the source URL and mark absent dates or amounts as unknown.
Explain why the company matches the outdoor-equipment sector screen.
```

## Check before using

Review company identity, original source, event status and sector fit. A funding announcement does not mean the business is for sale. Syndicated copies are not independent corroboration. Publication filters do not prove that a page's current content existed at a historical cutoff.

Your application owns scheduling, stored history and notifications. Start with bounded query concurrency and a reviewed sample; measure false positives and missed known events before expanding coverage.

Use [company screening](/use-cases/finance/company-research) for candidates that warrant deeper investigation, or [competitive analysis](/use-cases/finance/competitor-analysis) to compare their commercial positioning. Search retrieves candidates; those follow-up workflows produce the analyst brief.
